My final day in Prague started early with a walk up/through Petrinske park, both as a way to get some exercise and for something to do. The surroundings were beautiful and the park seemed like a great place to hang out (restaurants, playground, sports facilities and even a maze somewhere), but I was let down that there wasn't a spectacular view from the top. Well, there is a tower you can climb but I was too early to do so, and probably wouldn't have considering you had to pay. I returned to the hostel, packed up, checked out and made my way to old town to meet Ariel, "12 o'clock at the Astronomical clock" was our plan, but that was stupid. Turns out every tourist and their mother goes at that time to see the clock strike 12, oops I hadn't seen Ariel since a year prior when we met quickly in Seoul before I caught a flight out of the country, yet again. Since our days together in Korea we had both returned home, not doing much before venturing to explore Europe. It was awesome connecting with him, but it was hard as we were both hitting a mid-point in our travels and feeling a bit jaded. He almost talked me out of visiting Prague Castle, but thankfully I came to my senses and dragged him back up the hill (he already went the day before). It's impressive but we were both more impressed and excited about the later part of our day, hours spent over beers and delicious chicken kebabs at the Letna beer garden.
Although it wasn't an extremely eventful day with Ariel, it was exactly what we both needed. Hours at a beer garden catching up on life, travels and future plans while awaiting (dreading) our overnight bus. These bus tickets are once optimistic selves had booked seemed like a great idea at the time, but as was the case with most of my other bus rides, the day of provided different feelings. Prague was another of the cities that all of my friends told me "I'd love" and although those word rang true in Berlin, this time I was harboring different feelings. It is fair to say that I didn't give Prague a fair chance, the visit felt abbreviated and unfortunately I wasn't able to connect with any locals, which in my opinion can really make a trip. I was tired, sick of tourists, burnt out on meeting people and pretty apathetic about it all; it's not to say that I didn't enjoy my visit, it just wasn't a WOW destination, maybe the second time's the charm here.
