Although Caroline was taking off for paradise (can you tell I was envious) she encouraged me to stay for as long as I wanted, leaving a spare key and a nice roommate at my disposal. Not in a hurry to jump back on a bus I decided to take her up on the offer and spent one more day in the city. After saying our goodbye's Sunday morning I decided to join her roommate on a hike up Üetliberg, something I had wanted to do during my visit anyhow. Given the location of their apartment it wasn't necessary for us to take any transportation, but instead began our hike with a walk. The hike was enjoyable, varying in difficulty and atmosphere as both rain and sun showered down on us and rewarded with great views of the city once we reached the top. Instead of immediately venturing back down the mountain we followed the 'planet trail' until hunger sent us back towards civilization. Although Caroline's roommate extended an invitation to join her friends for a few drinks that evening, I decided to relax and regroup for the next leg of my journey. I was planning to leave Zurich the following day, busing back to almost where I had come from and give Prague a chance. Seeing as I would soon be back in hostel world, meeting new people and sharing small spaces I thought it best to relish in this final day of normalcy that Caroline's apartment provided me.
My bus on Monday wasn't until the afternoon so I still had a little time left to explore the city. I walked into town rather than taking the tram, enjoying the sights and simplicity of the city. I spent some time reading at the Lindenhof, a beautiful park with a great view over the city and ventured through all the small side streets and shops around the Niederdorf. Eventually, it was time for me to head back, pack up my bags and get situated for another long bus journey. Although the visit was short and bookended with lengthy bus rides, my stop in Switzerland was entirely worth it. Not only did I get to reconnect with an old friend, but I was graced with the beauty of this place. I don't know when, but I would definitely love to return and explore some more, although my back account may not agree with me.
