After spending the better part of the day riding my bike around the city, doing yoga in the park, checking out cute cafe's and sweating for every second of it, Amy and I decided to give the night market one last go. I was forced to draw out more Thai Baht than had planned (thanks Vietnam), so I decided I had some money to burn and goodies to buy. I'm not sure if you've noticed but I'm really good at adapting the stingy backpacker role, on my last few visits to the market my thoughts centered around "I don't need it, have room for it, or won't wear it" but this time I decided to give in. I've never been a big fan of shopping especially when bargaining is involved, but Amy helped me along just fine, convincing me to buy two new t-shirts (vests if you're a silly Britt) and a new bag, all of which I'm super happy about. Aside from my shopping partner, our extra time may have been the reason behind some of the purchases, tempted by the flyers and beautiful girls we decided to wait around to check out the Ladyboy show that's put on every night at the Night Market. The show is free but you have to buy a drink once you enter, of course, prices are marked up but considering there's no cover fee I was happy to pay. Amy and I found some stellar seats giving us a great view of the stage and waited with anticipation. The show started promptly(ish) at 9:30 and didn't skip a beat for the next hour and then some. Even the "intermission" was a bit of a show while the two bigger girls advertised "Happy Hour" with all drinks half price. I have been to one drag show before, in Nashville TN of all places, but this wasn't the same. I'm still confused as to the dynamic of the 'ladyboy' but give credit to some of them because damn they look good. Amy described some of them as 'ladyboys in training' because they were clearly still, well, boys. Anyway, logistics of the night aside, if you want a cheap form of entertainment or just a break from shopping and eating at the night market, I'd highly recommend checking these girls out.
There were varying degrees of ability, but some of them were born performers . One of the boys did an Adam Levine single and of course there were covers of Brittney Spears, Madonna and I believe Lady Gaga. They even got the crowd involved, but mostly just the men who were victims of brief lap dances. After the show all of the dancers gathered outside to say their thank you's, goodbyes and "see you again soon", while of course offering to pose for pictures. Amy had the grand idea of getting the boys to lift me for a picture and not wanting to be a party pooper I agreed, hence how my night ended.
